Fethiye was a coastal city at the borders of Lycia-Caria and its ancient name was Telmessos. Fethiye has no exact ancient information about its foundation. However, according to the first written records about the town, it has come into existence in the 5th century B.C.
Telmessos survived as an independent city for a long time, separated from Lycia. The city experienced several dominants; Persia, Alexander the Great, Rome, Pergamum Kingdom, Byzantium, Menteseogullari Principality and Ottoman State respectively.
Fethiye has a perfect Mediterranean climate, hot and dry during summers and warm and rainy during winters. This dominant weather is approximately 30 degrees during the summer months, is generally over 10 degrees during winter. Sea water temperature almost never decreases under 16 degrees during each season.







Blue Cruise: Fethiye and its perfect coast line offer a great number of anchorage spots for both daily boat cruising and chartering. Beside Fethiye is one of those towns having Turkey’s most established marinas. Blue cruise is therefore one of the first activities should be done in Fethiye.
Gocek, as an example, is one of the best sailing spots in Mediterranean. Several islands, coves, the land and the seascape of Gocek are overwhelming.
Water Sports: Belcegiz Bay and Oludeniz are two samples of interesting spots to explore, where the calm, crystal-clear waters are ideal for swimming, diving and other water sport activities.
Wind Surfing, water skiing and parasailing are good options in Oludeniz.
Paragliding: One of the best spots of Turkey for paragliding is Blue Lagoon (oludeniz) located in Fethiye region. The activities has been initially started by universities and performed by a massive number of people today. Paragliding is very easy and enjoying to do after a standard training. It almost does not require a special skill or much effort.
Scuba Diving: Fethiye is a very famous destination for diving and snorkelling. Countless diving tours are organised by many diving training centres and clubs.
Rafting: The very well location for Rafting and Canoe trips is in Eşen and Dalaman brooks and are being organised by travel agencies. Dalaman River named Indos in ancient times, begins in the Kocas Mountain near Dirmil and lies between Marmaris and Fethiye. The total length of the River is 229 km. Increased by branches from the Goktepe and Yaylacik Mountains of West Toros (Taurus), it flows through a narrow and deep valley and reaches the sea 8km south of Ortaca.
Camping and Picnics: The many beaches and bays of Fethiye are ideal for picnicking and camping.

Hisarönü and Ovacık villages in Ölüdeniz have recently become shopping and entertainment centres and also provides accommodation.
