Karsiyaka District

Karsiyaka district is the north shore of the Izmir Gulf and is one of the residential centers of the city.
The district has many old houses and mansions and the St. Helen Church is located at Karsiyaka. The Church is the very first Catholic Church here, which was built around 1904.
Yamanlar Peak is located at the shoulders of the city. The Peak is the highest hill of Izmir and has a crater lake.
Birds Paradise Natural Reserve is next to Karsiyaka and there are over 200 bird species including many domestic, summer immigrant, winter immigrant, and transit species pulling for a stop here.

Located in the central Culture Park of Izmir, this modern museum was opened in 2004 exhibits artifacts such as jewellery, coins, ceramics, glassware, friezes and Statues  collected during excavations in and near Izmir. Especially the statues of Demeter, Poseidon and Artemis which were found in the Izmir Agora excavations are the ones not to be missed.

Izmir Museum of History and Art consists of  three main sections; stone works, ceramic works, valuable item works. Stone works are displayed on the entrance floor such as statues from Archaic, Classic, Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine periods. At ceramic works section a very rich collection  covering a time range between Prehistoric and Byzantine period are exhibited.  In the valuable items section; bronze, silver, gold and precious stone objects are on display, dating from 6th century BC until the Ottoman period. Especially coins and jewellery are the most interesting artifacts of this section.
